Mangaluru, May 31, 2015: The misery of the two little children of a family from Kakkebettu Kalpane near Kulshekhar who lost their father recently, continues with their mother too passing away at Wenlock Hospital on May 30.
The deceased Mallika (32) was in a critical state since the past few days. Her husband Srinivas (38) who was undergoing treatment for paralysis after the family was rescued recently, had breathed his last on May 20.
The family of five including the mother of Srinivas was living in dire straits with the kids aged 6 and 4 themselves taking care of their ailing parents after no relative came to their help. They used to feed on the protein powder supplied from the Anganavadi where one of them used to go.
The Child Line and the Department of Women and Child Welfare had rescued the family recently after locals intimated them of the matter. The couple were later hospitalised.
The deceased Srinivas used to work in a liquor company he suffered a stroke some time back. His wife Mallika who was the sole bread winner of the family too had fallen ill after being mentally depressed due to the pressing problems at home.
The children are presently under the care of their maternal uncle.
