Miscreants attack offices of Kannada dailies in Mangalore.

Mangalore, Mar 2: A group of 6 - 7 miscreants attacked the Mangalore office of “Kannada Prabha,” the Kannada daily, which is located on the first floor of Ganesh Mahal on K S Rao Road.

















The office was open when the group rushed in and threw a bomb inside it. Four of these miscreants were wearing masks. The staff was rescued quickly and none of them suffered any injuries. The fire and the resultant smoke destroyed valuable equipment such as computers.

The police rushed to the spot and so did the fire fighting squad. The situation is currently under control. Meanwhile, the miscreants fled; and police have launched a manhunt for them.

In a separate incident, another gang of unknown miscreants barged into the office of “Jaya Kirana” at more or less the same time.

 

 

Recently, a Kannada translation of an article, “Burqa,” written by Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, which was published in Kannada Prabha led to communal violence in Shimoga and Hassan, leaving 2 people dead and several injured. The violence caused damage to property worth millions of rupees.
