Mangaluru, Jan 20, 2021: State minister for Animal Husbandry Prabhu B Chauhan has called for strict implementation of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020.
He was presiding over a meeting held at the DC office with regard to implementation of the New Act on January 19, Tuesday. The minister said stern action would be taken against those who violate the act and added that the guilty will get a jail term from three years to six years. He said the fine was Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh for first time offenders while a person who was guilty of the same offence the second time will have to pay a fine ranging from Rs one lakh to Rs 10 lakhs.
The minister said a certificate from the veterinarian was a must while transportation of cattle and added that only five to six cattle would be permitted in one vehicle. Food and water arrangements should also be made for the animals in the vehicle, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra, SP B M Laxmi Prasad, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty and others were present.
