Minister Minister Pramod Madhwaraj says steps taken to empower rural folk

Udupi, Sep 21, 2016: Speaking after inaugurating ’Jana Spandana’ programme organised at Brahmavar hobli level,  Udupi District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said emphasis has been laid on rural development and the state government has taken all measures to empower the rural folk.

The minister said the state government’s decision to introduce Jana Spandana programme is aimed at ensuring the hassle-free governance to the public, especially people with grievances.

He said the district has 64,000 BPL cards, including 12,000 cardholders in Udupi assembly constituency.

The minister added the state government has taken up pro-poor measures to improve the livelihood of the downtrodden. The BPL card holders are entitled to special facilities, he said. The minister said under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, beneficiaries do not have to possess NOC, instead BPL cards would prove as the documentary evidences. The services reach people at their door steps and they need not wander from office to office seeking help to get works done. He directed the MESCOM officials not to demand NOC from gram panchayat to provide power connections free of cost.

He said beneficiaries are offered special privilege by extending the deadline to apply under 94C and 94 CC. The last date to apply is October 27, he stated. As many as 256 beneficiaries were given the benefits of various development programmes introduced by the government and 15 beneficiaries received the title deeds under 94C and Bhagyalakshmi bonds. Three beneficiaries were given compensation package from the chief minister relief fund. Ten fishermen were offered provision under Akrama Sakrama Yojane and 20 beneficiaries received benefits under Basava Vasati Yojane.

Upto 36 grievances were received, including scarcity of doctors at Kemmannu PHC, lack of basic facilities in Haradi village, the problems encountered by the villagers in Uppur following the construction of the national highway, irregularities in public distribution system in Chantaru village, lack of solid water management unit in Chantaru gram panchayat, drainage effluents following in Varamballi GP area and shortage of the medical officials to perform the post mortem in Varamballi CHC among others.

The minister directed the officials to attend the grievances at the earliest and come up with solutions.
