On his visit to Kankanady Market, private city bus operators sought alternative space to park their buses. “We cannot park these buses on the main road as it will block traffic,” a city bus operator said.

An autorickshaw driver said that officials should provide temporary parking space for autorickshaws and taxis.

Mangaluru City Corporation officials told Minister Khader that two lanes can be provided for buses by removing the autorickshaw shelter behind the Kankanandy bus stop. Two more lanes will be provided for taxis and autorickshaws in the same area. More autorickshaws can park outside the school adjoining the Kankanady Flower Market. It will take a fortnight to make these arrangements.

Minister Khader said that till the arrangement is made, four buses should be allowed to park in the space allocated for building sheds to rehabilitate shop-keepers operating in the old Kankanady Market.

When Ali Hasan, president of Kankanady Shopkeepers Association, said that the place where they have to move temporarily should be spacious,  Khader said that shop-keepers should endure some inconvenience till the new building is constructed.

Following approval of the State government, tenders have been floated for the construction of market-cum-commercial complex at Kankanady at a cost of Rs. 42.5 crore by demolishing the existing one.
