Mini Vidhan Soudha for Udupi, foundation laid

Udupi, Jan 19, 2017: Udupi in charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, laid the foundation stone for the Mini Vidhan Soudha in Udupi on Jan 18,Wednesday.

The construction of a Mini Vidhan Soudha on 1.64 acres of land at the premises of the current taluk office at Bannanje here on Wednesday. The building is expected to constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.5 crore. The construction is expected to be completed within a year and it will be a two-storey building with a provision for a third floor.

While both Kundapur and Karkala taluks have their own Mini Vidhan Soudhas, Udupi taluk did not have one. Identification of a proper site was partly responsible for the delay.  The ground floor will house the tahsildar’s office, a court hall with a seating capacity of 80 persons, a legislator’s office, Food and Civil Supplies office, and separate toilets for men and women.

The first floor will include the office of Assistant Director of Land Records, surveyors’ branch and a hall with a seating capacity of 50 persons. The second floor will include Election Cell and Records Room.

The building will provide for various facilities including a 25,000 litres overhead tank, a 100 kVA transformer, a diesel generator, a main entrance of teak wood, a granite entrance corridor and glazed vitrified floors for rooms.

Minister Madhwaraj said that though the State government had sanctioned Rs. 7.5 crore for the building, he will be try to get Rs. 2.5 crore more so that a third floor could be added to it.

Meenakshi Bannanje, President of Udupi City Municipal Council, B. Narasimhamurthy, Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority, Nalini Rao, President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, and others were present.
