Mangaluru, April 29, 2020: Migrant workers who were stranded in various parts of the district due to lockdown have been sent back to their home towns through special KSRTC buses. On Sunday at least 1500 workers were sent back, while on Tuesday too over 50 buses had been arranged to send the labourers back to their hometowns in Shivamogga, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Haveri and other places.
The KSRTC had made the bus arrangements at the directions of the district administration. All the labourers were subject to medical test before being sent back.
DC’s instructions : In a latest development, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh has instructed migrant workers not to gather in front of the Town Hall to board buses. She has said arrangements for buses would be made after gathering information from their present place of stay. She also stated that police will initiate action against contractors or supervisors who bring them in large numbers to the city by violating lockdown rules.
