Men voters less than women in Udupi district

Udupi, May 26, 2015 : Women voters are about 33,000 more than men voters in the three taluks of Udupi district. At least  6, 97,523 voters including 3, 65,042 men; 3,32,186 women and 25 transgenders would be eligible to  vote in the gram panchayat elections in Udupi district on May 29.

According to a press release issued by Udupi DC  Dr. R. Vishal here on May 25, there are 3, 11,380 voters in Udupi taluk including 1, 47,950 men; 1,63,422 women and eight transgenders.

The total number of voters in Kundapur taluk is 2, 45,855 including 1, 27,962 women; 1,17,876 men and 17 transgenders.

There are a total of 1, 40,018 voters in Karkala taluk including 73,658 women and 66,360 men.  The voters’ list has been prepared by taking with information as on May 18. The voters can check their names in the lists at the tahsildar’s office or gram panchayat offices.

Tight security arrangements are  made by the police at polling stations in Maoist-affected areas, and also very-sensitive and sensitive polling stations in the district.  No voter’s slip will be given for these elections.

There is no provision for  NOTA -None of the Above in these elections. The polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 29. The administration has banned weekly markets and fairs on that day.

Elections will be held in a total of 837 polling stations in Udupi district, including 374 polling stations in Udupi taluk, 291 polling stations in Kundapur taluk and 172 polling stations in Karkala taluk.

Candidates have already been elected unopposed in 70 polling stations including 36 in Kundapur taluk, 20 in Udupi taluk and 14 polling stations in Karkala taluk.

Voters can use either the Voter’s Identity Card or any one of the 22 documents approved by the government including passport, driving licence, pan card, ration cards with photographs, and NREGA identity cards. Indelible ink would be applied on the left thumb of the voter.   The ballot boxes will be shuffled for the 837 polling stations would be held at the respective taluk headquarters on May 28.

The mustering and de-mustering centres in the district are: St. Cecily’s School in Udupi, Jaycees English Medium High School in Karkala and Bhandarkars Arts and Science College in Kundapur. The polling officers would leave with the ballot boxes to their designated polling stations on the same day.

There are 300 service voters in the district. The postal ballot papers have been dispatched to the armed forces.
