Mayor exhorts engineers to solve city infra issues

Mangaluru, Sep 17, 2016: Mangaluru mayor M Harinath, said our engineers can play vital roles in offering worthy solutions to the problems plaguing growing cities. He added that their expertise can help MCC, Mangaluru City Corporation address problems like blocked roads, unscientific distribution of water and management of solid waste.

 Engineers’cooperation and advice was necessary for the city which is in the race for the smart city tag, he said. Improving the lot of the common man should be our endevour.

Inaugurating the Engineer’s Day celebrations to mark the 156th birth anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya organized by the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), Mangaluru centre, Mayor Harinath, said engineers should give suggestions on finding solutions to traffic problems. On the water supply front, they should give cost effective solutions to help the civic body manage water supply systematically.

Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo said engineers should consider  giving their best to the society and they should take inspiration from Sir M Visvesvaraya’s works. MCC will make full use of their expertise to resolve pressing issues, he noted. Mohammad Nazeer, commissioner, MCC spoke on the occasion. A documentary on M Visvesvarya produced by the Films Division of India was screened. A technical session on pothole filling and cold tar was held.
