Mangaluru, Mar 30, 2017 :The first MCC session held on March 30, Thursday after new Mayor Kavitha Sanil took charge, witnessed much pandemonium with a ruling corporator sitting on a dharna alleging that she was neglected despite being elected Chairperson of Standing Committee on Health, Education and Social Justice.
Nagaveni who was recently elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee sat on a dharna in front of the Mayor’s Chamber complaining that she was not informed about the MCC programme scheduled to be held on Friday. She accused the Mayor of being autocratic and alleged that the programme was scheduled without bringing it to her notice.
Taking advantage of the situation when a ruling corporator herself raised voice against the Mayor, opposition BJP stood in support of Nagaveni.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil however tried to clarify that the programme which was supposed to be held during the term of the previous chairperson of the Committee was put off to Friday due to the ill-health of Minister Ramanatha Rai.
But, interestingly the programme schedule mention s the name of Nagaveni the present Chairperson of the Standing Committee. The programme in question is the one wherein the Minister is expected to distribute facilities to beneficiaries under various government programmes. The invitation has the names of all MLAs, MLCs and Standing Committee Chairpersons as chief guests.
