Max cases booked in Udupi for not wearing helmets

Udupi, Feb 19 2018: Speaking to media after phone-in programme,  Udupi  Police Superintendent Laxman Nimbargi said that after he took charge, as many as 6,200 cases have been filed under various criminal offence categories.

 

The SP said the law and order situation is being scrutinised and rectified. Of the total 6200 cases, as many as 81 cases are registered under Matka and 83 are arrested; 131 are arrested in 81 gambling cases; 250 cases registered under COTPA; 2471 cases for not wearing helmets; 19 under drunken driving; 254 cases for overspeeding; 260 for shrill horns; 99 cases for using mobile while driving and 3022 cases for other offences.

He said that a security bond of Rs 5 lakh is considered for people who are engaged in Matka activities. The list of offenders in the past five years is being prepared and if the violations are repeated by the offender, he has to pay Rs 5 lakh or serve a jail term. It is hoped that this plan will curtail the Matka activities in the district.

The SP received the complaint by labourers working in the sand mining at rural Karkala. The complainant alleged that he is a labourer working in an illegal sand mine, and the owner is harassing him without proper payment and leave. The sick leave is also considered for loss of pay, he alleged.

Another complaint was regarding the liquor shop at Adi Udupi which is adjacent to the girls’ hostel. Nimbargi said that initial investigation hints at the violation. A report is being submitted to the deputy commissioner recommending for action. He also promised to rectify the Suraksha Aap which is available to the public to register complaints.

The other complaints which the SP received is of the unhealthy rivalry between buses in Brahmavar area, the seats for the aged, women and disabled not being reserved in the buses, shrill horn and noise pollution, the effluent water being spilled from lorries transporting the fishes, the problems of crusher units at Shirva, eve-teasing of female students at Uppunda pre university college, illegal sand mining at Shankaranarayana, unnecessary buntings and hoardings and barricades put at inappropriate places.
