Mangaluru, June 4, 2016:  Reports received indicate, Sahya-dri Sanchaya, a registered group of green activists spearheading a campaign against Yettinahole project, will conduct a programme ’Matsya Rodhana’ on Panambur beach at 5 pm on June 5 on the account of World Environment Day.

The programme aims at discussing the ill-effects of Yettinahole project on fisheries. Due to the diversion of Nethravathi river, sweet water flowing into the sea will be reduced and the salinity of sea water will increase. In turn, this will result in the destruction of aquatic creatures, Sahyadari Sanchaya stated in a release.

The CD of telefilm ’Aluttiruvalu Nethravathi’ (Nethravathi weeps) will be released on the occasion. Former deputy mayor Purushottam Chitrapur will release the CD. The telefilm will also be screened on the occasion. Artists will present installation arts on the theme.

Dr Prathibha Rohit of Central Institute of Fisheries Research, Fisheries College Professor Dr Shivakumar Magada and Fishermen community leader Ramachandar Baikampadi will speak on the occasion.

In the city :  St Aloysius College will observe World Environment Day at Court Road, Karangalpadi, with ’Save the Trees March’ at 2 pm on June 4. The march will begin at the starting point of court road and end at St Aloysius PU College entrance on K S Rao Road.
