Manufacturing, focus of New Foreign Trade Policy: Nirmala Sitharaman

Mangaluru, January 3, 2015: In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet theme of ‘Make in India’, a new foreign trade policy is being formulated which will actively promote the manufacturing sector, said union Minister of state for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman while addressing Media persons at the BJP district office here today.

Nirmala Sitharaman is in the city to deliver a lecture on ’Commerce policy for the future India’ at a function organized by Mangaluru Initiative for Nationalist Dialogue (MIND) at Sangha Niketan.

Elaborating further, she said formulation of the new policy is in the final stages and is likely to be announced during the upcoming budget session of the parliament.

“Presently India has a 3 percent share of the global market and we want to increase this by giving a boost to exports,” she said.

Responding to further queries, she said the government was focused on pursuing its development agenda but blamed the opposition for disruption of deliberations in the Rajya Sabha and blocking the effective functioning of the government.
