Mangaluru, Aug 5, 2015 : Manjanady villagers who are fed up with the failure of the authorities to put a check to the unabated smuggling of sand towards Kerala, on August 4, Tuesday blocked the sand trucks and expressed their anger.
The protestors alleged that the sand smuggling activity has resulted in an artificial scarcity of sand and has also hit hard the construction industry. They also pointed out that a number of trucks were spotted moving towards Kerala via Konaje and Manjanady and accused the authorities of ignoring the illegal activity.
The speeding sand trucks have also been responsible for a number of accidents, the protestors alleged.
