Manipal based physio at Rio Olympics

Udupi, Aug 13, 2016: Happy reports are that Manipal University has its presence at the ongoing 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Two physiotherapists, products of the School of Health Sciences, Manipal are games officicials.




According to a press release issued by Manipal University,  Kiran C. is with the badminton team, appointed by the Badminton Federation of India, and Digpal Ranawat Takhatsingh was the personal physio of professional shooter, Abhinav Bindra.

“It is heartening to be working with Mr. Bindra,” who was the flag bearer for the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics. It was an experience of my life time,” said Physio Takhatsingh in his Facebook post.

Vice-Chancellor, H. Vinod Bhat, congratulated  Kiran and  Takhatsingh for the recognition they have received so early in their careers.  “Manipal University is proud of them,” he said. “It speaks volumes about the kind of education we impart here,” he added

Their teacher, G. Arun Maiya, is equally happy. “I am extremely happy that our alumni,  Kiran and  Takhatsingh, physiotherapist, for the Indian badminton team, and  Bindra, respectively, are at the Rio Olympics 2016. Its mater of great pride for our department, institution and the university,” he added.
