Manipal : Thieves target 2 elderly citizens, decamp with gold worth Rs 1.5 lakhs

Udupi, Sep 1, 2015 : An elderly man and a woman lost their valuables to chain snatchers  in two separate incidents reported from Manipal police station limits on August 20. In all gold worth Rs 1.5 lakhs was looted by the thieves.


Manipal : Thieves target 2 elderly citizens, decamp with gold worth Rs 1.5 lakhsIn the first case, a 67 year old woman named Rajeevi Prabhu lost    a two and a half sovereign weighing gold chain worth Rs 40,000 when two unidentified motorbike bound men stopped  near her in front of Kalkura Palace at VP Nagar just as she was heading home after alighting a bus at Lakshmindranagar at around 3.15 pm. The strangers enquired about some flat and before Rajeevi could realise what was happening, one of them snatched her gold chain and both fled the scene.

In another case reported the same afternoon, two unidentified motorbike bound  men approached Vishnudas Bhat (63) of Saralebettu him and one of them  posed as a traffic cop advised Bhat not to move around wearing gold ornaments.  Heeding to the stranger’s advice, Bhat removed his ornaments which the stranger placed in a towel and handed over to Bhat. Though later Bhat found his cell phone and cash inside, the gold chain and two rings worth  Rs 1.10 lakhs were missing. It has been gathered that the registration number of the motor bike of the thieves started with MH 07.

Further investigations are underway.
