Manipal: Assam woman duped with Medical seat promise, case filed against two

Manipal: August 18, 2015: A woman from Assam was cheated of Rs. 8.44 lakh by two persons who promised to get her a seat at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences at Gangtok in Sikkim for her daughter.

According to the Manipal police, the complainant Kalyani Kalati, a resident of Guwahati in Assam, said that Ranjan Kumar Singh and Mranali Singh from Manipal had promised to get a seat for her daughter Chaya Smita.

She gave them Rs. 2.8 lakh on August 11, 2014, and Rs. 5.56 lakh on September 8, 2014. The total taken from her was Rs. 8, 44,500.

But the duo neither got her the seat nor returned the money taken.

A case under Section 420 read with Section 34 of Indian Penal Code had been registered at the Manipal police station and investigations were on.

The complainant had sent her complaint through postal mail.

More details were yet to be ascertained from her. Meanwhile, the two accused were absconding, the police said.
