Mango Exhibition, Vasantotsava begins at Pilikula

Mangaluru, May 21, 2016 : A Mango Exhibition cum sale and Pilikula Vasantotsava -2016 organised at the Pilikula Urban Haat here was inaugurated by M Kamalakshi Rajanna, President of Karnataka Mango Development and Marketing Board on May 21, Saturday. She symbolically declared open the event by plucking a mango from the tree. The event is organised by the Board in association with the Pilikula Nisargadhama.

Speaking on the occasion, she informed that Karnataka  grows 14 lakh tonnes of Mango every year and is considered the second biggest mango growing state of the nation. She also stated  that there were plans to  facilitate mango export through an MoU with an exporter in Kolar.

Continuing, she said the Board was willing to pay subsidy to those who are ready to grow mangoes in over 2 acres of land. Mango saplings will also be provided to them, she added.

Dr Prabhaker Sharma, Director of Pilikula Biological Park, said the main aim of the event was to attract younger generation and to encourage them to grow more plants and trees.

A B Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, Abhayachandra Jain, State Minister for Youth Services, JR Lobo, Moidin Bava, MLAs, Dr Gopalakrishna, MCC Commissioner, Sreevidya, ZP Chief Executive Officer and others were present.

Different varieties of mangoes and jackfruits as well as medicinal fruits are on display for sale at Pilikula during the event.
