Mangaluru,  April 17, 2015:  Normal life in the state baring coastal Karnataka may be hit on Saturday  April 18 in view of the Karnataka bandh call given by various Kannada organisations to protest against Tamil Nadu’s opposition to the construction of a dam at Mekedatu in Ramanagara district.

While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said that the government will not support the bandh but his government is going to implement proposed Mekedatu dam project.

There will not be much impact of the bundh called by Kannada activities regarding river issue in Mangalore and Coastal Karnataka.

The activists in Mangalore are unhappy over Nethravathy river diversion project to provide drinking water for Bayaluseeme districts. Hence, activists are tight lipped over bundh issue.

Meanwhile, local cable tv channels and social media discussed over the issue and many voiced the opinion of not support this Karnataka bundh.

Both Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) officials confirmed that they will ply less number of buses compared to regular days.

KSRTC officials informed that there will be less number of long route buses and local buses will ply normaly on Saturday, April 18.

Dakshina Kannada district private buses operators body yet to issue a statement regarding participate or not to participate in the bundh.

Former MLA Vatal Nagaraj led a protest in front of the Mysuru DC’s office demanding the government go ahead with its plans and not back down following objections from Tamil Nadu.
He said the government should lay the foundation for the project within a month and warned of an agitation if it didn’t do it.
 Nagaraj, who called for the bandh, said various organizations have extend their suppor A day before the bandh, which is likely to hit normal life in Bangalore and across Karnataka.
