Mangaluru set to get 24 hrs water supply

Mangaluru, May 29, 2015:  The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) with a population of 5 lakh has been sanctioned a project of Rs 160 crore aimed at implementation of 24x7 drinking water scheme for 60 wards in the city. All areas in the city that are left out of drinking water supply network will be added once the new scheme is implemented.

 

 

 

 

The scheme will be implemented keeping the population of 2045 as benchmark. The new "Jalasiri" scheme of Karnataka Integrated Urban Water Management Investment Program (KIUWMIP) will be impllemented with 50% loan from ADB (Rs 80 crore), 40% sanction from the state government (Rs 64 crore) and remaining 10% funds from MCC (Rs 16 crore).   If everything goes smooth, the coastal city will get 24x7 water supply network through Project II of ADB.

New scheme will replace analog meters with digital ones to check leaks. Electro-mechanical devices and gadgets  will be part of the new scheme that also will have auto mechanism to trace leakages.  Old pipelines will be replaced with new ones, additional storage facilities will be added and houses connected to borewells will be brought under Jalasiri scheme once completed.

A total of 100 kms of additional pipelines will be laid to provide drinking water to all properties in the city, informed Jayaprakash, design engineer of GKW Consult, at a special council meeting held on Thursday May 28.
