Mangaluru ’Mini Vidhana Soudha’ is a non-starter

Mangaluru, Dec 04, 2015:  Recently inaugurated ’Mini Vidhana Soudha’  in M’luru city to accommodate the offices of Assistant Commissioner, tahsildar and some other offices, has no lift.

The Public Works Department has built it at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.5 crore. It was inaugurated recently with much fanfare by former Union minister and Chikkaballapura MP M. Veerappa Moily.   Now the PWD has given an estimate of Rs. 80 lakh for installing an elevator by making alteration to the stairs.

DK Deputy Commissioner Adoor.B. Ibrahim said some authorities were least bothered on the problems of senior citizens and physically challenged persons. No provision for elevators has been made at the Mini Vidhana Soudhas that have come up in Puttur and Sullia. “Notices have been issued to concerned authorities by the Commissioner for Disabilities for violations noticed in Puttur and Sullia.
