Mangaluru:’Karanth award 2015’ for Sadananda Suvarna at Kota

Mangaluru, Sep 22, 2015:   As per reports, Sadananda Suvarna, writer, actor and filmmaker, has been chosen for the annual ’Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti – 2015’. The award instituted by the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat and Karanth Birthplace Award Foundation, in memory of Jnanpith Award Winner late Kota Shivaram Karanth, is being given annually since 2005.

 

Sadananda Suva...H. Pramod Hande, president of the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat, said that  Suvarna had been chosen for this award in recognition of his contribution to the Kannada and Tulu films as well as theatre and literature.


He produced ‘Ghata Shradha’, which won the Swarna Kamal Award. He has also produced documentaries on Dr. Karanth.  The award would be presented to  Suvarna at Kota on October 10, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr. Karanth.


The earlier recipients of the award are Union Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily (2005), former Karnataka Lokayukta N. Venkatachala (2006), educationist K.R. Hande (2007), journalist and writer Ravi Belegere (2008), Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde (2009), filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli (2010), environmentalist Salumarada Thimakka (2011), theatre personality B. Jayashree (2012), educationist Mohan Alva (2013) and writer Jayant Kaikini (2014).


Celebrations from Oct. 1 :  A 10-day long programme would be held as part of Shivaram Karanth’s birth anniversary at Kota from October 1. The programmes include a children’s sahitya sammelan on October 1; dance programme on October 2; Tala Maddale ‘Sudhanva Kalaga’ on October 3; children’s cultural programme on October 4; teachers conference and State-level film festival based on Karanath’s novels on October 5; workshop for capacity building on October 6; farmers fest on October 7; demonstration on snakes on October 8, panchayat fest on October 9 and ‘Yaksha Natya Vaibhava’ on October 10.
