Mangaluru, Nov 03, 2016: November 2, marks ’All Souls Day’  following  All Saints Day (November 1), for Catholics, these are again two important days. The dear departed are fondly remembered , graves visited if possible and special prayers offered. Mangaluru is a hub of Catholics and this day is a solemn celebration in all Cemeteries in a deeply traditional way. Most all around the world too observe this day in one way or another. ’One who fears God, does not fear death’.

In coastal regions, graves in cemeteries are cleaned, spruced up and decorated with flowers. Special prayers after a remembrance of departed souls and usually a blessing by the priest. This day confirms an expression of a lifelong bond and also as a mark of gratitude to near and dear ones for the many important links,  memories and material goods gifted to descendants.

Every cemetery in the city was crowded with the Christians, along with their families and children, they devoutly offered their homage. Men, women and children were seen lighting candles and observing silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls, after the special mass in the evening.
