Mangaluru, Jan 09, 2017: The Catholic diocese of Mangaluru held it’s annual Eucharistic procession and rally in the afternoon, January 8 Sunday.

Bishop Rev Dr. Aloysius D’Souza, gave the lead with many local priests and a huge congregation with a solemn mass at th well known Milagres church in the city at 3.30 pm. After the mass an orderly procession filed from Milagras church to the historical Rosario Cathedral making it’s way from 4.45 pm to 5.45 pm, passing  along Hampankatta, Nehru maidan road, A B Shetty circleand so on. The Mangaluru Bishop assisted by clergy held the monstrance atop a decorated jeep all through the procession.

Volunteers and police assistance ensured an orderly observance; traffic and public faced a minimal impact. The participants prayed and and sang which impressed all concerned along the route. 

At Rosario Cathedral the open space was well arranged with a lit up decorated high stage. As soon as the tail end of the procession with the Bishop and clergy arrived with the Eucharist a crowed of a few thousands from all 100 or so parishes of the dioceses devoutly adored. A talk was given by the Parish priest of Surathkal Rev Paul Pinto on the importance of the SCC "Small Christian Communities" to which 2017 was dedicated  by the church. The importance of the ’SCC’ fore the betterment of the individual, families, church and society was stressed and all exhorted to take part in their respective churches as actively as possible.   The bishop administered a pledge to all present to uphold good values in life at all turns of life and to honour the SCC aims and actions for the betterment of day to life at all levels.

Later the Bishop who spoke briefly stressed that 2017 is designated as the "Year of the SCC, Small Christian Community movement". he went on to reiterate that With honour to the Lord in the Eucharist the NEW YEAR is well begun after Christmas festivities. Only the Supreme will lead us by the hand for all blessings we need in this new 2017. The SCC model in each and every parish should become a part of life of the faithful to make participants well filled in all facets of life. The priests and leaders are set to provide all convenience for a good moral life for all n the society. Appreciating the effort of all concerned, he thanked one and all for thier contributions and participation. He said that serious attention to families, the youth and the needy is the immediate scheme of the church and needs to be adopted by all. This year 2017 (May 13) will make a 100 years jubilee since the Fatima appearance of Mother Mary. She has again and again asked for the frequent recitation of the Rosary - The family that prays together stays together. Let us all as a family stay together in the times to come. the rally ended with the unveiling of the SCC logo of the diocese of Mangalore.
