Mangaluru cyclist’s record feat

Mangaluru, Feb 12, 2016 : A businessman and Member of Mangaluru Bicycle Club Donald alias Dony Menezes has created a record  by completing 271.6 km  non-stop cycling  covering  two major ghats and  attaining 6,063 meters elevation on the Mangaluru-Charmady-Kudremukh-Moodbidri-Mangaluru route on a single day on February 10, Wednesday.

He had earlier cycled 302 kms between Mangaluru and Shiroor  with his  mentor Kishan Bangera in September last year.

On Thursday he set out at 4 am from Punjalakatte near Belthangady and completed his solo cycling expedition at 10.30 pm. His expedition took a total of 18 hours and 32 minutes at an average speed of 18.5 kms while his  maximum speed was 69.8 kmph while returning from Kudremukh Ghat.

Dony who is 49 had taken up cycling as part of his fitness regime and to reduce weight.  Dony is presently into real estate business and had worked in Dubai for 21 years.
