Mangaluru, July 17, 2020: At a time when a vaccine against coronavirus is still awaited, a lot of people have come up with their own ideas, theories and remedies to boost immunity and tackle the virus.

The latest to join this list is Mangaluru Councillor Ravichandra Gatti who belongs to the Ullal City Municipal Council. In a video that is now widely shared, Gatti can be seen misleadingly recommending a particular brand of rum along with eggs as a cure for COVID-19.

In the video, he can be seen saying, "Rum is the medicine for COVID virus. Add a teaspoonful of ground pepper in 90ml rum and stir it well with your finger and drink it. Eat two half-fried omelettes to ensure that the coronavirus vanishes," said Gatti in the 1.04-minute-long video.

He added that he has tried a number of medicines for COVID-19 but claimed that only rum and eggs worked.

"I am not suggesting this as a politician, but as a member of the corona committee," he added.

"Many people are there in Bengaluru and Madikeri who drink rum but I do not drink. Neither do I eat fish," said Gatti.

For two days, a video of him is making the rounds on social media. As per an official at the Ullal Municipal Commissioner’s office, councillors have been appointed as members in the ward-level coronavirus task force committees.

When contacted, District Congress Committee (DCC) president and MLC Harish Kumar said that the party would take necessary action against Gatti.
