Mangaluru among 27 cities in 3rd smart cities list

Mangaluru , Sep 20, 2016:Mangaluru among the 27 urban centres, picked on Tuesday to be developed as smart cities, under the NDA government’s ambitious plan for an urban overhaul. The smart cities list includes 5 cities from Maharashtra, 4 each from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, 3 from Uttar Pradesh, 2 each from Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and one each from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Nagaland and Sikkim.

The three other cities from the Karnataka were in the list are Hubbali-Dharwad, Tumakur and Shivamogga.

India plans to have 100 such cities by 2022. Sixty have been chosen, including 20 in January and 13 in May, the remaining will be picked by 2018. Meant to change the way urban India lives, smart cities will enjoy uninterrupted power and water supplies, internet connectivity, e-governance along with quality infrastructure.

Smart cities list announced by the Centre: Agra, Ajmer, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Gwalior, Hubli-Dharwad, Jalandhar, Kalyan-Dombiwali, Kanpur, Kohima, Kota, Madurai, Mangaluru, Nagpur, Namchi,Nashik,Rourkela,Salem,Shivamogga,Thane, Thanjavur, Tirupati, umakuru, Ujjain, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vellore.

Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday released the third list of smart cities.
