Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2023: On November 19, Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) recorded a milestone by handling 7,399 passengers, marking the highest daily figure since its commercial operations commenced on October 31, 2020. Among these passengers, 3,527 arrived on 26 flights, while 3,827 departed on 25 flights.
According to an official statement from MIA, the surge in passenger numbers for November 19 can be attributed to the resumption of flights on the Mangaluru-Pune route and a significant event at a prominent educational institution in Udupi district. Additionally, the increase in air traffic movements following the initiation of the winter schedule on October 29 played a role in the notable uptick. The spokesperson for the airport highlighted the impact of rising business and leisure travel during the festive season across India, contributing to the gradual growth in foot traffic at the airport.
In the current operational year of 2022-23, MIA has been averaging 5,200 passengers per day. The airport presently offers connectivity to nine domestic and seven international destinations. Notably, the previous highest passenger count was 7,304 on November 20, 2021, followed by 7,168 on November 6, 2021, and 7,084 on November 27, 2021.
