Mangaluru, Aug 14, 2015 : World Organ Donation Day was observed at the Yenepoya Speciality Hospital at Kodialbail on August 13, Thursday . Speaking after releasing the Organ Donation Pledge Card on the occasion, City Police Commissioner S Murugan said organ donation should be done wholeheartedly. “Organ transplantation is a means to save several lives,’ he further added.
Dr. M. Vijay Kumar Ballal, Chancellor of Yenepoya University who presided over the function said an individual can save eight lives through organ donation. Pointing out that every year over five lakh people die for want of organ donors, he said people coming forward to donate organs were very few in India.
Dr Mohammad A Pani, CEO of Yenepoya Medical College, said there was a need to put an end to misconceptions in the society regarding organ donation. Everyone should be ambassadors of organ donation and sensitize the society in this regard, he added.
Dr Mujeeb, Dr Altaf Khan and Dr Santosh Pai of Department of Nephrology, Opthalmologist Dr Sinthia Arunachalam and others spoke on kidney, liver and eye donation.
Dr Santosh Pai informed that Yenepoya Hospital in the second hospital in Mangaluru which is registered for organ donation.
