Mangaluru, Jan 06, 2016: The Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd which had earlier threatened to suspend the work of garbage clearance following non-payment of dues, has resumed work on January 6, Wednesday after local MLA JR Lobo intervened and held talks with the firm.
The Mangaluru City Corporation at a meeting held in the presence of the MLA on Tuesday even agreed to make payment towards a bill of Rs 2 crores to the company. It even agreed to clear the entire balance amount within a fortnight.
The company had earlier suspended its work and even a meeting held on Tuesday between the MCC and the representatives of the company failed to arrive upon an amicable solution until the intervention of the MLA.
Antony Waste Handling Cell Ltd was claiming that the MCC owed Rs 10 crores to it while MCC officials argued that the pending amount was much lower than it.
However in the meeting Haridas Salian of the company claimed that a minimum of Rs 6 crore was pending. Meanwhile, some of the corporators present in the meeting suggested that the old system of collecting garbage through contractors be introduced again, while many other opposed this.
