Mangaluru: Use toll-free no 182, Rly passengers advised

Mangaluru, Sep 04, 2015: RPF - Railway Protection Force appealed to passengers to promptly use the toll-free number-182, for security-related issues when they are on railway premises or on board trains.   Express information will help RPF to act swiftly and effectively. Co-ordination with other agencies involved in the passenger security will also make things easy for the force.

As part of its 59th Raising Day, the Railway Protection Force is now involved in an awareness campaign to popularise the helpline. It is also distributing pamphlets containing safety-related tips to the passengers.

A week-long programme by the force to observe the Raising Day Week from August 29 to September 4. The Raising Day marks the elevation of the force to the status of an armed force of the union. The Railway Protection Force got the status of a Statutory Force with the enactment of the RPF Act in the Parliament on August 29, 1957.

The Railway Protection Force is now working with increased responsibility and has a specific role in providing security to Railway assets and passengers. The authority for this is vested with the force in accordance with the Railway Act 1989 and Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act-1966. The amendment made to the Railway Act -1989 in 2003, gives more powers to the RPF in dealing with passenger-related offences.

The Railway Protection Force of Palakkad Division had organised a colourful ceremonial parade.  A Suraksha Sammelan, in which protection force personnel expressed their grievances and suggestions, was organised. Apart from this cleanliness drive, tree plantation and blood donation camps were also held on the occasion.
