Mangaluru : Tipu Sultan Jayanthi celebrated amid high security

Mangaluru, Nov 10, 2017: Tipu Sultan Jayanthi was celebrated by the District Administration at the Netravathi Auditorium of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat on November 10, Friday amid heavy security following opposition by BJP and several right wing organisations. The programme was organised with the co-operation of the Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Kannada and Culture.

DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai inaugurated the programme and also released a booklet on Tipu Sultan on the occasion.

In his address, the  Minister  said it was regretting to note that some people were  engaged in the task of maligning the image of Tipu Sultan. The great ruler of Mysuru had  protected as well as helped several temples. He had also played a big role in promoting social harmony, said Rai.

Taking an indirect  jibe  on BJP leaders, Rai said some leaders who dressed like Tipu and even got photos clicked were now opposing the celebrations.

DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, MLAs JR Lobo, Moidin Bava, Shakuntala Shetty, ZP CEO  M R Ravi, MUDA Chairman Suresh Ballal, Additional DC Kumar and others were present.

 Aravind Chokkadi gave a special talk on Tipu Sultan.
