Mangaluru Nov 10, 2016: District in Charge Minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated Tipu Jayanthi at Zilla Panchayath auditorium on Thursday November 10th. The celebration is jointly organized by District administration and Kannada and Culture Department.
Addressing the gathering, Ramanath Rai said that he remembered learning about Tipu Sultan in his school text books and added that students still continue to learn about Tipu Sultan in their text books. "But today many people are trying to change the history by spreading rumors about the cruelty of Tipu Sultan," he regretted.
Rai further said that rumour mongers who try to disturb the peace of the society are enemies of the nation. It is our duty to respect the freedom fighters, he said.
Chief Whip of Legislative Council Ivan D Souza said that freedom fighters need to be remembered and history says it all which can’t be changed. "When it comes to history there will be pros and cons. Causing disturbance on this note is not right. State government has taken this decision to encourage freedom fighters and it should be equally respected," he added.
DC Dr KG Jagadeesha, Police Commissioner M Chandrashekar, MLA Mohiudeen Bava, Mayor Harinath and others were present.
