Mangaluru: Thousands witness spectacular and divine ‘Kodial Theru’

Mangaluru, Feb 4, 2017: A sea of devotees  thronged Carstreet  and witnessed the divine   Brahma Rathotsava, also known  as Kodial Theru of Shree Venkataramana Temple  on the night of February 3, Friday.

On Friday evening the idol of Lord Venkataramana was  placed in a golden palanquin and was taken around the sanctum sanctorum of the temple to the accompaniment of music, chanting of the name of the Lord and bhajans.

Later, idols of Lord Venkateshwara (Vishnu) and Goddess Padmavathi (Lakshmi) ascended the ’Brahma Ratha’  and the chariot was drawn down Car Street by eager devotees.

The festivities will culminate with the Okuli on February 4, Saturday.

Shree Venkataramana Temple, which belongs to the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin community, attracts people from various other communities too. As a result, thousands of people participate in the festival.  This historic temple provides ample opportunities for devotees to socialize and meet old friends and relatives from all over the world during the Car Festival.
