Mangaluru: Taxi driver accused of harassing French lady tourist

Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2020: An incident wherein a taxi driver reportedly harassed a  lady tourist from France who had arrived in the luxury cruise Costa Victoria, has been reported  on  February 18, Tuesday.

 

Over 500  tourists had arrived by the cruise which berthed at New Mangalore Port.  The tourists had then  boarded taxis to visit places of tourist importance.

The incident took place when the French woman was returning in the evening. It  is learnt the lady informed others about the harassment following which the Panambur police visited the place and gathered  details.

When enquired, the taxi driver reportedly told the police that an altercation ensued between him and the French lady over the issue of the taxi fare. He said the lady handed over a  Rs 2,000 note and asked him to return Rs 1,200, while he told her that the fare  including waiting charge would be Rs 1,000.

After gathering details from both from the tourist and the driver,  later let off the driver after duly warning him.
