Mangaluru, Sep 4,2015 : Students of various colleges in Mangaluru took to the streets on September 4, Friday under the aegis of the All College Students Association to pressurise the government o drop the controversial Yettinahole Project. The students who blocked road for nearly 15 minutes later staged a protest in front of Mangaluru University College.
Dinaker Shetty, Advisor of the Association demanded that all elected representatives from the district should join hands in the fight against the project which if implemented would lead to water shortage in the district.
He also revealed how a principal of a college in the city did not permit the students to take part in the protest by stating that the college had wells and would face no water scarcity and therefore there was no need for the students to protest.
He even warned that the students will boycott classes and intensify their protest in the days to come if the government does not pay heed to their demands.
All College Students Associiation President Rohini who also spoke, said elected representatives from the district should resign if they cannot pressurise the government to drop the project.
