Mangaluru South MLA’s plans for roads in Jeppu

Mangaluru, Nov 25, 2015 :  The  movementof vehicles from south Mangaluru, from the busy Bundar fishing harbour towards Kerala, through Hoige Bazar and Bolar, is expected to improve if the proposals by Mangaluru South MLA J.R. Lobo to construct a new road and widen the existing roads around Jeppu get implemented.

While the major bottleneck for Kerala-bound traffic from south Mangaluru has been the railway level-crossing at Mahakalipadpu, narrow roads in Bundar as well as Hoige Bazar and Bolar force the fish-laden trucks to take the Mangaladevi Road, thereby affecting movement of other vehicles.

MLA  Lobo has mooted a proposal to build a new road right from Bunder fishing harbour, along the river bank and ending near the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation building in Bolar. All vehicles moving to and from  Bunder could make use of this new road.

The vehicles would then join Bolar Main Road, passing through Jeppu Market and Morgan’s Gate before reaching National Highway 66. The Bolar Main Road, Jeppu Market Road and Mahakalipadpu Road need to be widened to meet the traffic density.

Asked when the proposals would materialise, the MLA said he has moved them under different heads before the government and is expecting speedy approval. Once the new road is constructed, it is bound to reduce the traffic volume on Mangaladevi Road.

RuB :  When pointed at the abnormal delay in executing the road under bridge (RuB) project at Mahakalipadpu railway level crossing, MLA Lobo said the MCC-  Mangaluru City Corporation would provide its share for the project soon.

The Mahakalipadpu Road has been in a pathetic condition as the MCC does not undertake permanent repair works anticipating construction of the RuB. This has been severely inconveniencing road users as well as residents of the area.

MLA  Lobo said the proposed for the RuB would be in alignment with the existing RuB near the Netravathi Cabin. The RuB cannot be constructed at the existing level crossing since it entails negotiating steep curves. The new alignment would considerably ease traffic movement.
