Mangaluru :Silk, cotton, handicraft exhibition in city

Mangaluru, Sep 03, 2015:  The “silk and cotton vasthrotsav” sponsored by the office of Development Commissioner, under the Union Ministry of Textiles,  Kashmiri dress materials, saris of Bengal cotton, Coimbatore cotton, Kolkata thread work, Gadwal silk, Balucherry silk and much more are attracting visitors.

The Kala Silk Welfare Society, Hyderabad organised this handloom and handicraft exhibition at Hotel Woodlands has about 100 stalls.

A display of  products of weavers, artisans and craftsmen without the interface of middlemen. The products of 20 States, including Rajasthan, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, have been included in the 100 stalls.

Special Discount  :   A 20 per cent discount on handloom textiles is the main attraction of the exhibition. It has varieties of dress materials, saris and handicraft items from different States in the country.  The handloom section features saris such as Kancheepuram, Bangalore silk, Mangalgiri Orissa cotton, Pochampalli cotton, Manipuri cotton, Bandhini, Kantha works, Madurai cotton, Dharmapuram, Chanderi, Banaras rich pallu, Tussar silk, Bomkai, Mysore silk and printed silk.

It also includes cotton dress materials, Punjabi fulkari dress materials, Kashmiri dress materials and handloom bedsheets. Textiles in vegetable dye and natural print, kurties, shirts, cushion covers, table covers, door curtains, windows curtains, blankets, midi kurties, wrinkle skirts have also been also put on sale.

The handicraft items section has wooden dolls, jewellery made of Jaipur gems and pearls, jewellery in Meenakari work, paper flowers, Kolahpur footwear. Jutebags in kantha work from West Bengal and Shanthi Nikethan leather bags also on display, a release said.   The exhibition from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. will be on till September 15.
