Mangaluru, Sep 3, 2015 : A jatha by foot organised as part of Save Netravathi Campaign of the Tulunada Rakshana Vedike commenced near the Shree Venkatramana Temple a Carstreet on September 3, Thursday.
Ramachander Baikampady, leader of the Vedike who addressed the gathering on this occasion alleged that a former chief minister decided to go ahead with this Yettinahole project with an eye on vote bank. He also warned that the district would suffer acute shortage of drinking water and the fishermen would be in deep trouble if at all this project was implemented.
Yogish Shetty Jeppu, President of the Vedike said the project should not be allowed to be implemented and urged the people of the district to raise voice against it.
MG Hegde, Honorary Advisor of the Vedike demanded that the Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake immediately convene a meeting in the district to elicit public views on the project. The minister who had assured to pay heed to the opinion of the people here had instead merely convened a meeting of some select people in Bengaluru, he alleged.
