Mangaluru: Rs. 50 crore for new jetty in Old Port announced

Mangaluru, Nov 02, 2015: Speaking at the Rajyotsava Day celebrations at the Nehru Maidan,  Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology and district in-charge B. Ramanath Rai said on Nov 1, that the State government will spend Rs. 50 crore for building a jetty in the Old Bunder area and improving facilities for transporting goods to Lakshadweep.

The Minister added that the government has given approval to the plan for having a new 8,000 square-feet jetty in the Old Bunder area.   Basic amenities and facilities will be provided to enable transportation of construction material and other commodities to the Lakshadweep. The construction of Mini Vidhana Soudha in the city that will house the Mangaluru taluk-level offices, which had dragged on for several years, had been completed and was now ready for inauguration. Mini Vidhana Soudhas have come up in Puttur and Sullia as well. Minister Rai said that bids have been invited for the construction of the DK DC office complex in 5.8 acres of reserve forest land in Padil.

Minister Rai went on to say, that “Poodi Mukta Abhiyan”, the campaign to correct mistakes in land records, will be carried out in each one of the gram panchayats.   The district administration has so far completed survey to find out mistakes in RTCs in 18 villages.

A sum of Rs. 46 crore was being spent to provide foodgrains to the needy under the Anna Bhayga scheme in the district. As many as 1.78 lakh children in government schools were getting milk three days a week in the district as a part of the Ksheera Bhagya scheme.  As many as 5,900 students have been given education grant under the Vidyasiri Yojane for 2014-15. The government has proposed to install a plaque of the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the Nehru Maidan.
