Mangaluru Roshni Nilaya Organises Criminology and Forensic Science Exhibition

Mangaluru, Sep 02, 2017: Department of Criminology and Forensic Science of School of Social Work at Roshni Nilaya in Mangaluru city organized ‘Forensic Science Exhibition 2017’ and a guest lecture on ‘Remedy for Suicidal Tendency among Youth’ at the college premises, observing World Suicide Prevention Day WSPD- 10th September.

CH Sudheer Kumar Reddy, IPS., Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District inaugurated the ‘Forensic Science Exhibition 2017’  and released a book titled ‘Unnatural Death Cases in Belthangady Taluk’ a preliminary report of project taken up by the department.

The former Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District, Dr. Sharanappa SD, IPS, asked to hold a study on the secondary data available from the UDR case files of Belthangady taluk. While addressing the gathering he stressed on the need for new methods to aid in the detection of crime. He also suggested to conduct further studies which can be practically implemented for the prevention of suicide cases.

Gyanendra Gangawar, IAS Probationer addressed the gathering stating the difficulty in identifying those who have suicidal tendencies and the importance of recognizing it especially among youth.

The department also organized a guest lecture on ‘Remedy for Suicidal Tendency among Youth’ in the college auditorium. Dr. Rameela Shekar, Counsellor, Dean at PG Department, School of Social Work of the college was the resource person. She shared her experience and gave the students tips on how to notice suicidal thoughts.
