Mangaluru: Ronald Fernandes elected Press Club President

Mangaluru, August 11, 2015: Dr. Ronald Anil Fernandes, Senior journalist and Mangalore Bureau Chief of Deccan Herald, has been elected as the new President of Mangalore Press Club for the period 2015-18, in the election of Office Bearers held today.  He will succeed the incumbent President Ramakrishna R.

Affectionately called ‘Ronnie’ by fans and colleagues, Dr. Fernandes was the first journalist of south India to bag the Sarojini Naidu National Award in the year 2009 for best reporting on women in Panchayat Raj in the English category. He also received the Dakshina Kannada District Rajyotsava Award for the year 2012.

He is the author of the book ‘TV Tolls for Teens’, an in-depth study of the relationship between TV media and children. It was adapted from his doctoral thesis, for which he had been awarded a PhD degree by Mangalore University in the 2010.

Other office bearers of the Press Club who were elected unanimously are: Senior photojournalist Annu Mangalore (Vice President), senior correspondent of Hosa Digantha Kannada daily Guruvappa N. T. Balepuni (General Secretary), Agnel Rodrigues (Secretary), Laxminarayan Rao (Treasurer) and Suresh Belakaje (Internal Auditor) were.

The new Executive Committee will comprise of Ramakrishna R., Kiran U. Sirsikar, Mohammed Arif, Ibrahim Adkasthala, Atmabhushan, Rajesh Shetty Ballalbagh, Naresh Kumar Sasihitlu.
