Mangaluru: Rise in Dengue, Malaria: DC orders measures on war footing

Mangaluru, July 04, 2015: Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has directed the Health Department officials  to sensitize the public on the causes, symptoms and ways of preventing Dengue, Malaria and H1N1 and also to allay unnecessary apprehensions in public minds regarding the  diseases. He has also instructed the authorities to hold taluk level workshops and also cleanliness drives.

 

 

The Deputy Commissioner was presiding over a meeting convened here on July 3, Thursday   in the presence of health officials, doctors and representatives of medical colleges in the backdrop of the rise in spread of contagious diseases in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials to organise the cleanliness drives in association with students, members of the general public and voluntary organisations.

Stating that some hospitals do unnecessary platelet count tests,  the DC said platelet count test should be done only if there is  bleeding and such other strong symptoms in the patients.

He also requested the people to use anti-mosquito repellents to prevent mosquito bites.

Dr Ramakrishna, District Health and Family Welfare Officer explained the measures taken by the Department to check contagious diseases and sought the help of private medical colleges too in this regard.

City Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, District Surgeon Dr Rajeshwari, ZP CEO Shreevidya, MCC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present.
