Mangaluru: Richard Castelino reportedly arrested in Melwin drug case Kuwait of Feb 2014

Mangaluru, Sep 16,2015 : It is reliably reported that one Melwin Fernandes from Karkala was jailed in Kuwait a year and half ago,  for unknowingly carrying a banned medical preparation for neighbour Richard Castelino who was absconding. Reportedly the police have arrested neighbour Richard Castelino, whom the parcel containing the banned medicines was meant for  unmindful of the consequences to  Melwin.

Recap :   In February 2014, Melwin Fernandes, employed in Kuwait, to help Richard Castelino, who was his neighbour in Karkala and lived in Kuwait, took a parcel for him from Richard’s wife Justine. Unknown to Melwin, the parcel contained a pain killer that was banned in Kuwait, and Melwin was arrested by the Kuwaiti authorities on landing there, and was in jail until his release in October 2014 by efforts of his wife Carol, friends and organizations based in Kuwait.  Both Richard and his wife Justine evaded all responsibility and Richard absconded after Carol filed two cases in Karkala police station.    It was recently  discovered that a false bank account of  Richard’s was making payments to Justine his wife, and that he held a passport in the name of ’Roshan Crasta’.  He was then tracked down.  Carol Fernandes stated that two FIRs in the Karkala police station were filed and all the documents will be sent  to the high court of Kuwait to clear her husband.  She also said that her husband is still in Kuwait and  unable to find a job after he lost the earlier one due to his arrest. 

 Carol added that the family was thankful to social activist Elias Sanctis and his wife Tressy and also Devdas Kumar Pandeshwar and everyone who helped in Melwin’s release.  she also thanked all well wishers and prayed that the matter will be fully settled.
