Mangaluru June 17, 2016: State Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment B Ramanath inaugurates World Environment Day at Town Hall today Friday June 17, World Environment Day was jointly organized by District Administration, Mangaluru City Corporation, District Legal Service Authority and State Pollution Control Board.

Speaking on the occasion Ramanath Rai said that, at present acres of land has been acquired by the people which were reserved for the forest. As per the statistics only 22% land is reserved for the forest compared to 33% few years back, we should acquire land which is reserved for the animals with this they move on to the villages and harm people with various calamities, he added.

People have failed in many ways and need to think of protecting and preserving the environment and correct ourselves. We need people with true lovers of environment who are aware about the reality and the true meaning of environment, said Ramanath Rai.

Ramanath Rai revealed about the campaign titled “Kotivriksha” will be held from July 2 to July 10th. Urban Eco Park will be constructed in Pilikula worth of Rs. 18 crores and government have sanctioned 5 crore so far. We need to take seriously in protecting forest and animals.

Inland Windsors was awarded the “Environment Excellence Award” for providing environmental friendly systems such as Sewage Treatment Plant ( STP), Rain Water Harvesting, Recycling of waste water , use of LED lights to reduce energy consumption.

Prior to the programme, students from various colleges participated in Environmental rally which took out from Bavutagudda to Town Hall.

MLA JR Lobo, Mohiudden Bhava, Zilla Panchayath President Meenakshi Shanthigodu, CEO Sri Vidya, DC AB Ibrahim, MCC Commissioner Dr. HN Gopalakrishna and others were present.
