Mangaluru : Polio Eradication Awareness jatha organised in city

Mangaluru, Oct 24, 2018: An Awareness jatha on Polio Eradication was held in the city on October 24, Wednesday as part of the World Polio Day. The programme was organised by the DK District Administration, Health and Family Welfare Department,  National Polio Surveillance unit and  Rotary Club  in association with various organisations. The jatha which commenced from Jyothi Circle culminated near the DC office.

Addressing the gathering, District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao said though no new Polio case has been reported from the nation,  the failure of the neighbouring nations like Afghanistan and Pakistan to control polio has  necessitated caution on the part of India.

Stressing the importance of administering polio vaccines to all kids below five years, he said it is the duty of each and everyone to make India a polio free nation.

Over 500 students from various nursing colleges took part in the event.
