Visitors to Pilikula since the past 12 years always enjoyed watching Raja who was brought here from the Tiger Safari Centre in Shivamogga in 2003. Though the average life span of a tiger is 18 years, Raja had managed to survive for 21 years. His mortal remains were consigned  to flames on Friday itself.

Raja was  quite healthy until recently, but his movements had slowed down in the past few days due to old age. He used to be provided with 10 kg meat and 2 kg chicken  every day.

Here it is worth mentioning that  about two and a half years ago, Raja had killed an attendant at Pilikula by pouncing on him, even as he was applying medicine to Raja who was then sick.
