Mangaluru, Sep 28, 2015:  DK DC  Adoor. B. Ibrahim Sept 27 said that it is necessary to have good parks and open spaces for the development of city. Inaugurating the seminar on ‘Lifestyle management’ organised by the K.S. Hegde Medical Academy,  DC  Ibrahim also said the city has been losing out on the number of open spaces. People point out about presence of six tennis courts in the city in 1960s. But none of those are to be seen today.

B Ibrahim 2DC  Ibrahim said there was poor interest shown in development of layouts where one will have parks and open spaces. People seek  permission to build houses in about six cents of land even.

It is worth for the authorities to take a look at a small park on Jail Road  near the Veterinary quarters that is neglected and taken over by undesirable activities for years,  if such spaces are duly safe guarded it will help in improving the lung space of the city of Mangaluru.

The absence of parks and playgrounds was forcing people into a sedentary lifestyle that was affecting health.  The city to develop, there was need of more parks and playgrounds, which, he said, would go a long way in improving the health of the people.  Police Commissioner S. Murugan turned philosophical and said that the people of the city have been found engrossed in less essential things and have forgotten how to live life. An introspection and change is vital.

Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University M. Shantharam Shetty and president of Indian Medical Association’s Dakshina Kannada unit G.K. Bhat Sankabithlu also spoke. The seminar was organised as a part of the World Heart Day celebrations.
