Mangaluru, May 13, 2016 : Former minister Krishna J Palemar has alleged that the undue favours done to the sand mafia by some leaders has resulted in the water scarcity in the city.
Speaking to the media at the BJP Office here on May 12, Thursday Palemar alleged that in a bid to help the sand mafia the water storing process in the dam had commenced only in January and February instead of November and December. He blamed the District in-charge Minister for this and also alleged that illegal sand mining business was carried out by the suppoters of the ministers.
On the MCC securing water from Lakya dam of KIOCL, he wanted to know if the water has been tested and purified.
Launching a tirade against the state government, Palemar said development has come to a stand still and accused the state government of claiming credit for the programmes initiated by the past BJP gvernment, by inaugurating them.
Several of the BJP government programmes like Suvarna Grama Yojana and Bhagya Lakshmi schemes are not continued, he alleged.
BJP leader and forme mayor Shanker Bhat who was also present alleged that as much as 35% water pumped from Thumbay dam does not reach the city owng to the illegal pipelines attached to the main pipeline. The Mayor should clarify regarding the quantity of water pumped and the quantity of waer that reaches the city, he said.
