It was also a sort of reaction against the Mangaluru City Corporation for permitting a builder to construct a multi-storeyed building, close to the Light House, which blocked the view of the sea the park and Light House.

It is also to tell people that such a rare light house exists in the park and there is a need to protect it from any encroachment, demolition.

The artists who gathered at the park, under the auspices of the Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi, painted the image of the light house, the park and the building obstructing the sea view.

Artist Dinesh Holla had painted how human intervention had blocked the historical view. They saw the latest development from different perspectives.

Shashidhar Shetty, convener, National Environment Care Foundation, said that despite rules that no high-rise buildings should come up close to the jail, buildings have come up near it in the city. Now the government authorities are speaking about shifting the jail.

“Who knows one day they might speak about shifting the Tagore Park and light house. The way the corporation permitting a high rise building near a historical important monument indicates that they are least bothered about its importance,” he said.
